University Guidance

VIS teachers and counselors assist every student in achieving their goals for post-secondary education. This includes:

  • Portfolio
    • Every student’s portfolio is specifically designed to meet their needs for entry into post-secondary institutions

  • Volunteer Opportunities and Work Experience
    • Volunteer work is an essential part of the graduation program as it shows the student’s all-round social abilities. Students will participate in a volunteer program encompassing their interests at some time during the graduation program.
    • As part of choosing a career, students need to know as much as they can about it before entering the field. The best way to learn about their career choice is to visit and work in businesses that are operating in that field. Through actual experience in the business, they can better determine whether it is a career that they can see themselves doing. VIS endeavors to find volunteer and work experience opportunities within the Campbell River area as per student needs. Volunteering and work experience may also take place during vacations in the student’s hometown or country.

  • Graduation Course Planning
    • Each field of study has different pre-requisites for university entrance. VIS will assist Grade 11 and 12 students in course selections for entrance into the university and faculty of their choice.

  • University Selection
    • There are thousands of universities to choose from around the world. However, most students and families are only aware of famous or local universities. While entering one of the top universities around the world is the most common goal, it may not be the best choice for all students. Field of study, finances, grades, are just a few of the factors that need to be considered as students look at the university of their choice. VIS counselors and teachers help students choose universities that meet as many of their needs as possible.

  • Specialized Programming
    • Specialized programming may be offered for groups of students with common interests such as: TOEFL, SAT, American Universities, or specialized faculties.

NIC Courses

Students who have finished English 12 or who have high enough grades on their interim reports are eligible to enroll in first year university courses through North Island College’s Campbell River Campus. These course credits are transferable to many universities that the students will be accepted at.
