Literacy

At HCIS Sokcho, students develop exceptional reading and writing skills by expanding their vocabulary, accessing various information sources, and engaging in ongoing practice opportunities. Reading and writing skills are crucial for success in many subjects. At HCIS Sokcho, we believe that language skills are an integral part of your child's education. Instead of relying on textbooks that focus on memorization, we encourage our students to read topic-specific fiction and non-fiction books that promote both imagination and critical thinking. Students develop their reading and writing skills by expanding their vocabulary, accessing various information sources, and having frequent practice opportunities.

The ability to learn English develops gradually and is dependent on various situations. Students use language to explore and discover topics, issues, and questions based on their interests, literature, and other curriculum areas. They converse, inquire, and ponder over experiences, stories, and new ideas. Students use words, pictures, and their own experiences to comprehend different types of text such as art, books, objects, websites, land, and oral stories. They express their thoughts with others in different ways such as drawing, writing, storytelling, singing, and role-playing. They learn how to express their relationships with what they see and hear.
